4G LTE BlackBerry PlayBook arriving in Canada on August 9, hitting U.S. "in the coming months"

We've known for a while now that RIM has had a 4G LTE model of the BlackBerry PlayBook in the works, but today the company officially introduced us to the cellular-enabled slate and even slipped in some U.S. availability news. On its official Inside BlackBerry blog, RIM has revealed that the 4G LTE PlayBook will be launching on August 9 in Canada, with a U.S. release to occur "in the coming months." There's no word yet on which U.S. carrier(s) might offer the LTE PlayBook. The new PlayBook will come with 32GB of built-in storage and will accept micro-SIM cards. It'll also come preloaded with PlayBook OS 2.0.1, which RIM says is now available for download for Wi-Fi-enabled PlayBook models.

Considering that we've known about the 4G LTE BlackBerry PlayBook for well over a year now, it's nice to finally see the thing getting close to hitting retail shelves. Of course, it remains to be seen how many folks have been holding out this long for the LTE-enabled version of RIM's 7-inch PlayBook, but at least their wait is finally nearly over. We'll update you with more news on the LTE PlayBook's U.S. availability as we get it. Any of you out there interested in an LTE PlayBook?
