Sprint's HTC EVO 4G LTE features a near field communications (NFC) chip that allows it to utilize Google Wallet for mobile payments, but unfortunately for many owners of the handset, Wallet hasn't exactly been working as it should on the EVO 4G LTE as of late. A Google spokesperson today confirmed the issue, explaining that a "software problem" involving the handset's NFC chip is the culprit. The spokesperson went on to say that Google is working with HTC and Sprint on the problem and that it should be able to be resolved with a software update, which is said to be coming "soon."
While Google Wallet may not be an essential app that renders the EVO 4G LTE useless when it's not working, it is a nice feature that some Sprint customers may have gotten accustomed to having thanks to the Now Network's Wallet partnership with Google. It's good that Google finally acknowledged the problem that some folks have been having, and here's to hoping that a fix will indeed be along soon so that EVO 4G LTE users can get back to tapping-to-pay to their hearts' content.
