Earlier this year it looked like the Nokia 808 PureView and its 41-megapixel camera wouldn't be coming to the U.S., but now there's some good news for those of you interested in the Symbian handset. Speaking to PCMag, Nokia's U.S. president Chris Weber said that an AT&T-friendly unlocked model of the 808 PureView will be sold here. "We'll figure out a way to make that available in the U.S. in the next couple of months," Weber said. Of course, the phone won't be offered by a U.S. carrier, meaning you'll be paying full price for it.
Weber also took the time to touch on a phone that is currently available from a carrier in the U.S., the Lumia 900. The exec told PCMag that "demand has has been outstripping supply for the first couple of weeks," but that Nokia is working to change that. Weber added that the cyan model seems to be especially popular, explaining that "when you give people something different from a design perspective—colors, etc.—it really stands out, and consumers want that." As for when we'll be seeing a Nokia Windows Phone on another U.S. carrier, Weber didn't have any announcements to make but said that his company knows how important Verizon is and that it's working to make that happen.
While the Nokia 808 PureView may not appeal to everyone once it comes to the U.S., it's good to hear that Nokia is interested in making the device easy for interested customers to buy one. It remains to be seen how much U.S. customers will need to pony up for an 808 PureView or when it'll be made available, but hey, at least now you can start making a list of all the things that you'll take a photo of using the 808 PureView's camera once it finally does land stateside.
