LG introduced a number of new Android smartphones earlier this year, including the "L-Style" series of handsets and the Optimus 4X HD. However, a new rumor out of Korean site DDaily has claimed that LG has got yet another new high-end device in the works. The phone is said to feature the codename "D1L" and is intended to be a competitor to the still-unannounced Samsung Galaxy S III. Specs for the D1L reportedly include a 4.7-inch 1280x720 display, 1.5GHz dual-core Snapdragon S4 processor, LTE and Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. LG is purportedly planning to launch the D1L in May. An LG official is said to have confirmed that the company is working on something known as the D1L, but wouldn't say anything else on the matter.
Interestingly, a new LG device has popped up on GLBenchmark that could well be a U.S. version of the D1L. The device in question is referred to as the "LG VS930" and is listed as having a 1280x720 display, a 1.5GHz CPU and Android 4.0.3. The "VS" portion of the handset's model number points toward a Verizon debut (Revolution is VS910, Spectrum is VS920), and there are several mentions of "d1lv" in the benchmark as well, suggesting that this VS930 could be a Verizon variant of this mysterious D1L smartphone.
Although obviously all of this rumored info should be taken with a few grains of your favorite salt until LG makes it official, it makes sense that the company is working on a high-end smartphone to help it compete with whatever Samsung's got up its sleeve in the Galaxy S III. The good news is that now that we're nearing the halfway mark of April, we could hear more from LG soon if the D1L does indeed make its debut in May.
