We're less than a week out from the event at which Apple is expected to debut the iPad 3, and now a report has surfaced claiming to have information on the pricing and storage capacities of the new tablet. Some rumors surfaced earlier this week suggesting that the iPad 3 could see a price bump of $70-$80, but a source going by the name Mr. X has told 9to5 Mac that the iPad 3 will retain the same pricing structure as the iPad 2. Additionally, the tipster says that the new iPad will also feature the same 16GB, 32GB and 64GB storage capacities as the current model.
One of the new features expected to be included with the iPad 3 is a new 2048x1536 resolution display, which may have helped the aforementioned rumors of an increased price tag gain a bit of traction. However, as 9to5 Mac points out, Apple doesn't often raise its prices, as evidenced by the fact that we're still seeing pricing for the latest iPhone models start at $199 and go up in $100 increments from there like when the iPhone 3G debuted.
As for the storage capacities remaining the same, some folks may have been hoping for a doubling in the memory of the most capacious iPad 3 up to 128GB, but for whatever reason it doesn't sound like that'll be happening. At least it doesn't sound like Apple will be axing its 64GB model like some previous rumors had suggested. What do you all make of this news?
