Apple sends invites for iPad 3 event on March 7th

Well, that was fast. Not long after a rumor surfaced claiming that Apple would be showing off the iPad 3 at an event next week, the Cupertino firm has sent out invites for just such a gathering. The event will take place on March 7th, which is next Wednesday, at 10 a.m. at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco. As you can see in the image above, the tagline for the invite reads "We have something you really have to see. And touch."

Unsurprisingly, the invite itself doesn't offer up much in the way of information as to what we'll be seeing at the event, save for the iPad itself, that is. The screen of the iPad in the invite appears to be of a higher resolution than the displays found on Apple's previous slates, which would jibe with reports that the iPad 3 will feature a high-res display that's expected to come in at a resolution of 2048x1536. Other rumored specs of the iPad 3 include a beefier processor (reports are torn on whether it'll be dual-core or quad-core), 4G LTE connectivity and a body similar to the iPad 2.

Whatever features the new iPad ends up packing, you can bet that we'll bring you all of the information as we get it next Wednesday, so keep it locked to PhoneDog for more. Until then, drop your guesses as to what specs you'd like to see in the iPad 3 in the comments below.
