Acer intros Liquid Glow with Android 4.0 as CloudMobile gets shown off on video

We've already seen several manufacturers take the wraps off of their Mobile World Congress-bound smartphones ahead of the big event, and today Acer has joined in on the fun. The company today introduced the Acer Liquid Glow, an Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich-powered handset that Acer says will be launching in early summer. The Liquid Glow's spec sheet includes a 3.7-inch display, 5-megapixel camera with LED flash, and NFC support. Expect it to be available in Sakura Pink, Alpine White, and Cat's-eye Black.

In other Acer news, the CloudMobile smartphone that we first got a peek at a couple of weeks ago has been given the hands-on video treatment. Cellulare Magazine spent a some time with the device, and the (rather brief) clip shows the phone flipping between home screens and its app list without issue. The CloudMobile is expected to come to market in Q3 with Ice Cream Sandwich in tow, and the folks at Netbook Italia claim that the device will actually pack Android 4.1, though obviously that hasn't been confirmed just yet. Other specs for the CloudMobile include a 4.3-inch 1280x720 display and 1.5GHz dual-core processor.

So there's your look at a couple of the devices that Acer will have on offer at MWC. Both look like interesting handsets, and although the CloudMobile may have a quad-core processor like the high-end offerings from some other manufacturers, it does have a high-res 4.3-inch display that could be attractive to folks that want a nice-looking screen that's not 4.5 inches or larger. The fact that the CloudMobile has both capacitive and software navigation keys in the video below looks kind of strange, but the official renders that we saw earlier this month showed the handset without any keys on its face, so Acer may be planning to axe the capacitive buttons before launch. You can check out the aforementioned CloudMobile clip (and the Liquid Glow press release) below, and some still shots of the CloudMobile in the wild can be found at the Notebook Italia link below.

The New Liquid Glow Smartphone - A handful of friendship and fun

Acer presents its Liquid Glow smartphone at the 2012 Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. Based on the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich operating system, this smartphone brings the ultimate balance between style, performance and affordability — ideal for today's fun-seeking, social-networking youth.

The Liquid Glow sports a 3.7-inch screen and portrays Acer's signature look with nice curves, chrome details, and a soft-touch casing combined to deliver the perfect size, grip and feel. This new smartphone will be available in a series of trendy colors: Sakura Pink, Alpine White, and Cat's-eye Black. Going a step further, the onscreen display style varies with the external color, making each smartphone a unique fashion statement.

The Liquid Glow brings together the power and the convenience of Ice Cream Sandwich, providing a user-friendly interface along with widgets to easily stay connected, entertained and updated. It also works with the latest voice-input engine from Google, which guarantees a continuous "open microphone" experience and streaming voice recognition.

The smartphone's 5 MP rear camera features an LED flash for low light, as well as panoramic image capture and touch focus. With Android Beam, photos can be shared by a single tap with another NFC powered Android device, without the hassle of launching application or pairing. What’s more, Android Beam can also share anything like contacts, favorite apps, music or videos instantaneously through NFC.

Please come and see the new Liquid Glow smartphone at Acer Pod, located inside the Google Android Booth, Hall 8 - 8C25.

The Acer Liquid Glow will be available in early summer 2012.
