Motorola Cliq 2 due to be updated to Android 2.3 Gingerbread

Here's a nice Wednesday morning surprise for any Motorola Cliq 2 owners on T-Mobile: It's been revealed that Motorola is prepping an Android 2.3 Gingerbread update for the Magenta Android slider. Moto has announced over on its official support forums that it's looking for 1,000 customers to test out the Cliq 2's Gingerbread update before rolling it out to the public. There's no mention of when the update may be pushed to non-testers or what other improvements it may pack.

This is the second major Android update we've learned about in the past week for a device that's not exactly the newest kid on the block, with news emerging last Friday that the Samsung Continuum will soon be bumped up to Android 2.2 Froyo. It would've been nice to see this update for the Cliq 2 roll out a tad closer to its original January 2011 launch, but hey, this is definitely better than no Gingerbread update at all. Now we wait for Motorola and T-Mobile to let us know when the upgrade will be pushed to consumers. If you've got a Cliq 2 and don't feel like waiting that long, you can hit up the Motorola link below to let the company know that you're interested in being a tester for the update.
