Map shows where T-Mobile is gaining spectrum from AT&T breakup fee

So we know that T-Mobile is set to gain $1 billion worth of AWS spectrum licenses from AT&T as a part of the breakup fee from the death of AT&T's proposed acquisition of T-Mobile. What we don't know, though, is exactly where in the U.S. this spectrum is located. That changes tonight, as a GigaOM reader has dug through the spectrum transfer application that AT&T recently filed with the FCC and prepared the handy map you see above that shows the locations of the spectrum that T-Mobile will be gaining. The map maker notes that AT&T handed over all of its AWS licenses in some major U.S. markets, such as Baltimore, Boston, Kansas City, San Antonio and San Diego.

Overall T-Mobile's got to be pretty happy about what it's walking away from the AT&T-Mobile deal with. It may not be gaining licenses in every portion of the U.S., but it did get itself quite a bit of shiny new spectrum in different portions of the country, including 12 of the 20 top U.S. markets, that should be enough for T-Mobile to continue to build out its 4G HSPA+ network. Now we wait for the FCC to give the transfer the A-OK. So, T-Mobile customers, is your town covered by one of the magenta spots on the map above?
