HTC confirms GSM Flyer Honeycomb rollout, says Wi-Fi-only update is coming soon

HTC's been talking up the fact that its 7-inch Flyer tablet would eventually see an update to Honeycomb since way back in April, and today the Taiwanese firm finally started to make good on its plans. Over on its official Facebook page, HTC has announced that the European GSM Flyer has now begun the process of being updated to the tablet-friendly version of Android known as Honeycomb. HTC added that the Wi-Fi-only version of the Flyer will also be bumped up to Honeycomb "soon," but didn't provide any other details. The full statement straight from HTC:

"Ready for some ‘sweet’ news? The GSM version of the HTC Flyer tablet, available in Europe, is beginning to receive updates to Honeycomb beginning today! Honeycomb brings a ton of improvements to Android on tablets, including the latest version of HTC Sense for Tablet with enhanced Internet browsing, Mail, Calendar and more all optimized for the 7" screen. Not to be outdone, the WiFi version of the HTC Flyer will receive its Honeycomb update soon, too! Stay tuned for more details."

It may be taking longer than I'm sure many Flyer owners would like, but good on HTC for following through with its plans to bring Honeycomb and a new tablet flavor of Sense to the 7-inch slate. As for the Sprint-specific EVO View 4G and its move to Honeycomb, well, there's still no word on when that update might be along, but Sprint has said in the past that it plans to offer Honeycomb to its WiMAX-infused Flyer variant. More as we get it!
