It was just a little over a year ago that Windows Phone 7 first exploded onto the scene. What does the platform and its users have to show for its over 365 days of existence, you ask? Well, besides handsets ranging from the LG Quantum to the HTC Titan, they can now tout the fact that there have been over 40,000 apps submitted to the Windows Phone Marketplace. That's up from a total of 25,000 in July, and according to the numbers reported by All About Windows Phone, the Marketplace is growing at a rate of around 165 items per day. Around 5,500 of the total apps submitted have since been removed from the Marketplace by either the publisher or Microsoft, but developers have made up for that by adding nearly 4,800 in the last month alone.
Obviously Windows Phone has a ways to go before it'll catch up with Android and iOS in terms of total number of apps available, but surpassing the 40,000 apps submitted milestone is nothing to sneeze at. And with Nokia's Windows Phone devices now official and (hopefully) coming soon to the U.S., expect that figure to keep growing.
