It was at the tail end of September that Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos took to the stage to unveil some new Kindle ereaders and the Android-powered Kindle Fire, and now a little over a month later, it seems that Barnes & Noble is ready to give us its answer to those devices. As you can see above, today the company sent out invites to an event taking place in New York City on November 7th. There's no mention of precisely what B&N has up its sleeve for the gathering, but the fact that the invite contains the "n" logo from the Nook suggests that a Nook Color successor may be on tap. The Wall Street Journal has chimed in to claim that Barnes & Noble will be introducing a new tablet that's "expected to differ significantly" from the Nook Color.
The Nook Color has been pretty successful for Barnes & Noble since its launch late last year, thanks at least in part to its popularity with the Android community as a cheap and easily hackable tablet, so It'll be interesting to see how B&N responds to the Android 2.3-powered Kindle Fire and its $199 price tag. It's worth mentioning that the rumor mill believes that the Nook Color 2 could be packing Gingerbread, a 1.2GHz processor, and a focus on streaming/displaying content. Obviously none of that is official just yet, but whatever B&N does end up showing off next week, you can bet that we'll keep you in the loop.
