If you've been jonesing for an Android Ice Cream Sandwich device since the OS was officially unveiled at Google I/O, your wait may soon be coming to an end. A report out of BGR this morning claims that, according to "a source with knowledge of Google’s Ice Cream Sandwich plans," Google would like to bump up the release of the first Ice Cream Sandwich devices to sometime in October. The reason? Why, the iPhone 5. Apple's new handset is expected to arrive in September or October, and Google reportedly wants to grab the attention of as many out-of-contract customers as it can and prevent those users from having the chance to "[drool] over the iPhone 5."
When Google took the wraps off of Ice Cream Sandwich back in May, it said that the new OS was tentatively set to arrive sometime in Q4, which just so happens to include the month of October. There's no real hard evidence yet to support the claim that the first ICS devices will actually begin arriving in October, but hey, it's certainly a possibility. One thing that is for sure, though, is that watching the iPhone 5 and new ICS products duke it out in the final months of the year would be pretty entertaining to watch.
