Hot on the heels of news that Sprint will be extending its instant rebate promo through next month, a leaked memo has revealed that the No. 3 carrier will soon introduce shared data plans. According to a document sent to IntoMobile, Sprint will introduce 3G/4G combined bucket data share plans on June 12th, aka this Sunday. There's not many details on the plans inside the memo, but the full text of the doc reads as follows:
"4G Data Share Plans: SNAP enables activation of 4G and 4G/3G combined bucket data share plans. This enhancement allows accounts with multiple subscribers to share data usage across subscribers with common Share IDs.
As a result of this change, a data share plan could have separate 4G, 3G or 4G/3G buckets. In addition, rate plans can have a voice pooling ID with voice minutes and a data share ID with data allowances. SNAP will not show pooling options for team members to help guests setup polling share options for guests."
Obviously the news of Sprint introducing shared data plans is pretty big, but it's worth noting that Dan Hesse, Sprint CEO, has hinted at the possibility of shared data plans in the past. These new plans could be great for families with several data-hungry devices, although it remains to be seen exactly how Sprint will price these new offerings.
