New Windows Phone 7 Mango features outed, including turn-by-turn directions

Windows Phone 7's Mango update, which is slated to arrive later this year, is going to be big for the platform. It's going to be so big, in fact, that it looks like Microsoft is planning to brand it as "Windows Phone 7.5." We've already heard that Mango will bring with it better multitasking, a mobile version of IE9, and several other goodies, and today the Windows Phone Dev Podcast has revealed several more exciting features that are expect to debut in WP7.5. According to Ryan and Travis Loudermilk, hosts of the podcast, Mango will include:

  • Bing Audio, a Shazam-like music ID service
  • Bing Vision, which allows users to scan barcodes, QR codes, CDs, DVDs, and all kinds of other products
  • Turn-by-turn navigation, which will feature "voice guidance during driving directions"
  • Podcast support
  • SMS Dictation

This is obviously pretty big news for all of the Windows Phone 7 users out there, especially the prospect of getting voice-guided navigation built into every Mango-powered handset. What may be even more exciting, though, is that the update is still in the works, there could be even more awesome features baked into the final update. Of course, the fact that the update is still being developed also reminds us that we're still a ways off from actually seeing Mango roll out. I suppose good things come to those who wait, right?
