The federal examination of AT&T's acquisition of T-Mobile is just beginning to get underway now, but several parties have already voiced their concerns about the deal. The Federal Communications Commission attempted to allay some of those concerns today, explaining that they'll be closely examining every aspect of the deal including and how it could advance technology, if it would at all, and the effects that it may have on competition in the mobile space. Additionally, the FCC will be analyzing spectrum on a market-by-market basis.
Considering how huge the AT&T-Mobile deal could be for the wireless industry, as well as tech in general, I'm sure many will be glad to hear that the FCC will be examining the deal with a fine-toothed comb. Of course, with a deal this big, it'll take some time before we know whether or not it'll actually be approved, although the FCC wouldn't give an idea of when we could expect their review to be complete. I'm sure AT&T will be doing all it can, including divesting several markets, to avoid cutting T-Mobile a $3 billion check.
