Palm Pre 2 updated to webOS 2.1, Verizon model gets deep discount

Attention, Palm Pre 2 owners: your day is about to get 2.1 times more exciting. HP is in the process of rolling out webOS 2.1 to the Pre 2's that are in the field, although right now it looks like only unlocked GSM models are getting the update. After upgrading to webOS 2.1, users will get access to Exhibition, Voice Dial, and a handful of enhancements and improvements for apps like Email, Messaging, and Tasks.

For those of you out there that have been thinking of picking up a Pre 2 but are still on the fence, we've got something that may convince you to finally take the webOS plunge. Over at HP Wireless Central, the Verizon Pre 2 is now available for the low, low price of free with a two-year contract. Verizon is still offering the device for $149.99 with a two-year commitment.

The Pre 2 may be getting overshadowed by the Pre 3, which is due this summer, but it's still an impressive little smartphone if you don't feel like waiting around a few months for a new device. This is especially true now that it's received webOS 2.1. It's kind of a bummer that Big Red's model hasn't been bumped up to 2.1 just yet, but we'll be sure to let you know when it does.
