Last week we learned that T-Mobile employees would soon begin training with a new 4G mobile hotspot device put together by ZTE, and today we're getting a closer look at the device that the folks at Magenta are working with. This device, allegedly the "Lil' Wayne" hotspot, is capable of pushing out 21Mbps speeds to up to five WiFi-capable devices. Pocketnow expects the faster, 42Mbps "Wayne" hotspot some time in Q2, and they point out that one or both may arrive under the moniker "G-Surf," a name which T-Mobile slipped into the USPTO with the G-Slate's trademark filing.
Along with the Lil' Wayne, Pocketnow has posted an image of a Sprint Overdrive Pro, the follow-up to the Overdrive 3G/4G hotspot that's been around for over a year now. The Overdrive Pro looks to be nearly identical to its predecessor, although it's reportedly capable of supporting eight simultaneous connections, up from the previous model's max of five.
There's no word on exactly when these new data-hungry devices are going to arrive on the shelves of their respective carriers, but with CTIA coming later this month, I expect that we'll be learning more very soon.
