Android has U.S. market share lead, but Apple and RIM are the biggest manufacturers

We see platform market share reports all the time here at PhoneDog, but rarely are they as pretty as Nielsen's latest market share charts. As you can see above and below, the tracking firm has measured both platform and manufacturer market share between November 2010 and January 2011, and they also reported on exactly which age groups are using which OSes. During the three-month span between Nov. and Jan., Android managed to squeak past iOS and BlackBerry as the top OS in the U.S., while Windows Mobile/Windows Phone 7 took fourth, webOS finished fifth, and Symbian was in sixth. When it comes to the top manufacturers, both Apple and RIM claimed 27 percent of the market, while HTC and Motorola were the big dogs of the Android pound.

Android taking the top spot in U.S. market share isn't really news at this point, but it is pretty interesting to see which manufacturers are most popular among those of us that use Google's mobile OS. HTC appears to be doing pretty well for itself, claiming the top spot for Android and WM/WP7, and Motorola has a pretty large chunk of the Android pie, too, thanks in large part to Verizon's DROID line, I'm sure. Now that we've got the official market share numbers from Nielsen, we have to know: which Android manufacturer do you prefer? Why?
