The PlayStation Phone may be the most anticipated Android phone around, and now it looks like we may finally see it unveiled in February. Sony Ericsson CEO Bert Nordberg hinted pretty strongly at the PlayStation Phone's existence in a recent interview, saying that "There's a lot of smoke, and I tell you there must be a fire somewhere" when asked about the rumors of the device's existence. Nordberg says that he wants to make a lot of "noise" at Mobile World Congress in February, adding that "Sony is of course a very strong brand, and why shouldn't we use that?" Sounds like pretty good evidence of the PlayStation Phone's existence if you ask me.
It's possible that we could see Sony Ericsson unveil the Anzu/X12 that has been leaking like crazy as of late, but given all of the hints that Nordberg dropped in this interview, it's probably a good bet that we'll be seeing a gaming-centric handset debut in February. The PlayStation phone has the potential to be huge for both Sony Ericsson and for Android in general, but what impact it ends up having depends on a few factors. The price will need to be in line with other smartphones, so around $199.99 with a contract, Sony Ericsson needs to launch the device shortly after its debut, and there needs to be a good selection of games at launch. Those two aspects of the device, along with Android and the Playstation brand, could make the PlayStation Phone a monster hit.
