The BlackBerry Torch is a nice, high-end handset (especially for only $99.99 on-contract), but some users would prefer something more along the lines of RIM's extremely popular Curve/Pearl series. The folks at BBLeaks may have just what they're looking for, as they've been told that RIM is working on a smaller, entry-level slider BlackBerry. There's not much information to go on right now, but it's being said that this new device will be much smaller than the Torch that we all know and love and that it could even sport a SureType keyboard, like the ones found on the Pearl line and the mockup you see above.
It's tough to say at this point since there's not a whole lot of info to go on, but a low-end CurveTorch could be a big seller. It would likely have a smaller, lower-resolution screen, a 2 or 3 megapixel camera, and all-around cheaper materials. RIM may opt to remove the touchscreen, too, but I'm not completely sold on that idea yet. Touchpad navigation would be alright, but having a touchscreen to help navigate is part of the Torch experience, and I'm not sure RIM should remove that to make the handset a little cheaper. Then again, if RIM wants to make a small, sliding device with a hardware keyboard to appeal to Curve users, they may have to cut costs wherever they can. More on this as it develops.
