Mark Papermaster, one of the men who oversaw the creation of the iPhone 4, has left Apple. It's not clear whether he left on his own or whether he was forced out, but Papermaster, who was Apple's Senior Vice President of Devices Hardware Engineering, has left the company, the New York Times reports. Though his background is in processor design, Papermaster was known as "the guy responsible for the antenna," a source told Daring Fireball back on July 23rd. Considering his position within Apple and the quote from Daring Fireball, it appears that Papermaster played a big role in the iPhone's antenna design and, after a little over a year with Apple, it caused his departure from the company.
The entire "Antennagate" debacle has caused a major stir surrounding Apple, and it seems that it all became too much for the company. When the New York Times reached out to Papermaster for a comment, he remained silent, which leads me to believe that he was ousted from Apple. Concrete information is still hard to come by when it comes to this news, but as with every other big story, I'm sure it will all trickle out sooner or later.
