Apple, unlike Google, hasn't been known as a company that embraces the cloud, but if a Boy Genius Report tipster is correct, all of that will be changing soon. A "reliable Apple source" has shared some of the company's plans for iTunes with BGR, and they say iTunes will be getting cloud capabilities as well as wireless syncing. The new functions will fall into three categories:
- Streaming music and movies from Apple’s servers to your computers, devices, etc.
- Streaming music and movies from your home computers to your other computers, remote devices, etc.
- Wireless iTunes syncing with devices
The first action will work just like you would expect it to. Any Apple device with wireless capability will be able to stream purchased content directly from Apple's servers, freeing up more of the precious memory on your device. Second, Apple will reportedly allow you to stream your own purchased content stored on your computer to any of your Internet-connected devices using your own connection. Finally, we have wireless syncing, which should work pretty seamlessly according to BGR. Any apps you buy or changes you make to notes, contacts, calendars, etc. will immediately be synced with your computer. To take advantage of all of these new features, Apple will be unveiling "two new devices with camera/camcorder capabilities" at or before their traditional fall event. Maybe we'll finally see an iPod Touch with a camera?
All of these new wireless capabilities should really increase the functionality of any wireless Apple devices that you own. Cloud streaming and wireless syncing have been two things that Apple products have been missing for some time, but we've heard in the past that the company won't introduce anything until they're completely satisfied with how it works, like multitasking. I'll be glad to finally see the legendary iPod Touch with a camera, if that's indeed what one of the devices will be. Any guesses as to what the other camera-toting device will be? Maybe an updated iPad?
