BlackBerry Shield images leak, ready to protect your precious data

Earlier we reported on some leaked photos of the BlackBerry Bold/Torch 9800 slider, and now we've got another BBerry leak for you.  Rather than leaking a phone, though, we've got photos of the BlackBerry Shield service.  BBNews has received some photos of the application that will really come in handy for BlackBerry owners.  We first learned of the Shield service back in February, but little was known about it then.  The service will be free to BlackBerry Internet Service (BIS) users and will offer the following features:

  • Remote Device Wipe: Wipes the device and/or memory card remotely
  • "Lost & Found" Screen: Displays a message on the home screen if the device is lost or stolen
  • Remote Password: Remotely set the password for the device
  • Loud Ring: Makes the device ring loudly (even if it's set on silent) in case the device is lost
  • Device Tracking: Track your device using GPS
  • Remote Backup: Remotely back up or restore your device data

The BlackBerry Shield service looks like an essential application for BBerry owners.  It's great that RIM is offering both a web version and a mobile version (shown below), so if you or a friend have another device, you can always be sure to find your lost handset.  There isn't any solid release date information for Shield, but these leaked screenshots seem pretty complete, so I would guess we'll see it sooner rather than later.  Maybe a simultaneous release with the Bold/Torch 9800?
