Well, that was fast. After releasing the Android 2.2 source code yesterday, Google is pushing out an Android 2.2 update over the air to Nexus One owners. The update build number is FRF83 and is a measly 644 kb. The update says it includes support for Flash in the browser, support for Exchange in the calendar, speed boosts for several apps including the browser, and USB tethering and portable Wi-Fi hotspot features. You can download the update from Google here (this file only works for users currently on build FRF50) or you can try hitting System Update on your device to see if you can download it OTA. Users on FRF72 can download the update to FRF83 here. The OTA update is hitting some users while others are reporting nothing, so if you haven't gotten the upgrade, sit tight and keep checking with System Update.
It's great that a new update is rolling out OTA to users, but it does seem to be a select group for now. Since there hasn't been any sort of announcement from Google, this may just be a small test run to make sure everything runs smoothly. Of course, there doesn't seem to be any love for the neglected AT&T Nexus One users yet. Hopefully once this update starts hitting more users, an AT&T version will also start rolling out. Come on, AT&T/Google, Nexus One users on your network want updates, too!
