Google Voice now open to the public

After spending a while in beta like the rest of their services, Google Voice has finally been taken out of beta and made it available to everyone.  After a little over a year of being previewed, anyone can now mosey on over to Google and sign up for an account.  Google says that there are over one million people using the service, and considering how popular Google Voice has been during its beta phase, I'm sure that number will jump significantly now that everyone has access.  For a primer on what Google Voice is all about, check out the video below!

After graduating from college recently, I've been taking advantage of every sort of student perk while I still can.  When Google made expedited Voice invites available to anyone with a .edu email address, I had to sign up.  While I'm still a Voice newbie, the service has definitely been great so far.  Transcribed voicemails are awesome, and so is the prospect of cheap international calling and the ability to block unwanted callers.  If you haven't checked out Google Voice yet, it'd be wise to do so soon before all of the good phone numbers are taken!
