AT&T to offer rebate or exchange to recent iPhone 3GS buyers

While many in the tech industry have been expecting Apple to announce a new iPhone at WWDC this week, not everyone knew about the announcement or wanted to wait.  A leaked AT&T document shows that the carrier has a couple of options for those people that bought a new iPhone 3GS on or after May 7th.  Customers will be able to get a $50 or $100 dollar rebate for their 16 GB or 32 GB 3GS, respectively, that will be credited to their next bill.  The second option allows the customer to exchange their 3GS for an iPhone 4, paying for any applicable price difference.  If you're planning on taking the option with the rebate, there are a couple of things you should know:

  • Customers who purchased iPhone 3GS May 7th through May 14th will have until June 14th to visit the original location of purchase and receive this one-time bill credit
  • Customers who purchased after May 14th will have 30 days to complete their price protection transaction by returning to the original location of purchase

This seems like a good move for iPhone owners who purchased a device recently and are suddenly feeling buyer's remorse after the WWDC announcement.  It would have been nice to know about this offer earlier so new users could get in on the unlimited data plans before AT&T axed them, but then AT&T would've admitted that a new iPhone was coming.  Still, this is a generous move by AT&T and it's nice to see them taking care of the recent iPhone buyers.  Are any of you planning on taking advantage of this offer?
