There have been many rumors that Apple would be replacing Google with Bing as the default search engine in the new iPhone OS that will be released next month, and today those rumors became stronger. TechCrunch has received information from multiple sources, including those close to Google, that say that Bing will be the default search engine in iPhone OS 4. People have been expecting this news for a while as Google's Android OS continues to steal marketshare from Apple's iPhone, and next month it may finally come true. There were also reports that Apple and Microsoft were in talks about iPhone search back in January. Google has reportedly been paying Apple $100 million per year to be the iPhone's default search provider, so to make Bing the default choice, Microsoft would have had to offer even more than that. As with all iPhone rumors, we'll find out for sure on June 7th.
TechCrunch has updated their post explaining that their sources have said that "It's more complicated" than was previously reported and that we shouldn't expect Google search to disappear from the iPhone.
