Android 2.2 to get tethering, Wi-Fi hotspot

While Android 2.2 "Froyo" gaining Flash capabilities and being all-around faster may have been enough for some people, it obviously wasn't enough for Google. TechCrunch has confirmed that devices running Froyo will gain USB tethering and the ability to be used as a Wi-Fi hotspot.

Froyo will almost certainly be showed off and then released to users at next week's Google I/O developer event, so these features are not far off from Android users.  The problem, though, is with the carriers.  As it has always been, the carriers will almost certainly get the final say on which parts of Android make it into the devices that they offer, especially with so many skinned versions of the OS available.  I'm sure that if the tethering and wireless hotspot features do make it through your carrier and onto your device, you'll be paying to use them.
