Motorola Flipout comes to light sporting Android 2.1

Following the "square phone" trend (think LG Lotus, Lotus Elite, Nokia Twist 7705, etc.), Motorola's odd square-shaped device finally has a name: the Flipout.  Supposedly running MOTOBLUR with Android 2.1, the Flipout is said to sport the following:

  • 700 MHz processor
  • Full QWERTY keyboard
  • 2.8-inch display
  • 512 ROM/256 MB RAM
  • GPS

The device will be available in three colors (black, green, and pink) when it is released in July.  No word on carrier just yet, but rumors point to AT&T, particularly given the odd design and color scheme (at least that's what MobileCrunch thinks, and I would agree).  For those running MOTOBLUR with older versions of Android, the mere rumor of Android 2.1 working properly with Motorola's custom UI should give you hope for future updates.  Let the rumor mill churn!
