HOT: T-Mobile pre-selling HTC Dream Sep 17? Still not the phone I saw last week

Last week I made mention of an unnamed, destined for T-Mobile handset
that I'd been lucky enough to catch a glimpse of first-hand.  I called
it "T-Mobile's best phone ever,"
and the speculation began in the comments section.  Some folks guessed
that I'd seen an early prototype of a Google Android-based device,
perhaps the HTC Dream.  Nope.  I saw something else entirely.  That
being said, an Android-powered HTC device on T-Mo could wind up being
the best phone the carrier's ever seen ... and we may all be able to
judge that for ourselves sooner than we thought.

TMonews went all crazy on us today, "calling BS" on the recent
Android-is-Delayed rumors and "putting in out vote of confidence"
(whatever that means) on a T-Mobile branded Android device being made
available to subscribers via presale starting September 17th.  Yes, the
same September 17 that's just over one month from today.

But wait, there's more.  The device in question will, in fact, be
the HTC Dream - codename: G1 - and sell for $150 to current subscribers
during a one week only presale period, if you believe TMonews.  The
report goes on to say that the device will be available in black,
white, and brown, connect to T-Mo's new 3G network, and feature a 3" x
5" touchscreen, sliding QWERTY board, and 3.0 megapixel camera.  Dream
will not only require subscription to a new T-Mo data plan said to cost
more than the current $20 T-Mobile Internet option, but also reportedly
require a GMail account for operation.  We'll keep you posted, believe
you me.
