Custom phones: zzzPhone offers WinMob handset with customizable options

Too good to be true?  Maybe - it'll cost you $149 to find out.  A company called zzzPhone is offering user-configurable Windows CE 6-based handsets for order on a sort of a la carte basis from their website.   $149 plus shipping ($5 up to $30 or so for FedEx 3-day) gets you an 18mm-thick, candybar-style GSM handset running Windows CE for Mobile with a 3" touchscreen, 3MP camera, dual SIM card slots, and Web browser and A/V player built-in.

But the company's website includes a laundry list of features available at additional cost.  Want a non-black case?  Add $10.  Gold accents? $19.  Custom message printed on the case? $39. Gold-plating?  $119.

The upgrades aren't just cosmetic, though.  GPS will run you $119.  Skype? $39. 5MP camera? $39.  7 megapixels? That's $95.  And the list goes on and on.

The website's fun if you check it out using IE on a Windows machine - your virtual phone changes as you add and subtract features.  But what happens when you process your order and charge a few hundred bucks to your credit card?  Not sure - I haven't tried it yet.  zzzPhone offers a 30 day service guarantee and "2 yr Service Warranty" along with "Insurance," but adding a 5 or 7mp camera and/or GPS to your handset adds up to 6 weeks to your ship date.

Anyone got the fearlessness - and extra cash - to take the plunge with zzzPhone?  Let us know how it goes!
