Google introduces new mobile mapping application.

Google's new service dubbed ?My Location? utilizes cell phone towers to triangulate the users position rather than relying on a GPS receiver. This is good news for those consumers who do not have a GPS enabled phone or do not wish to pay extra for navigation services offered by the carriers (although I do have to admit I love my VZNavigator).

Like Goog411, ?My Location? will be offered for free to the masses and will include advertisements from local establishments. The service can be both beneficial to consumers as well as advertisers. Advertisers are able to create different ad campaigns based on location to better promote their products and services (like one day sales) and consumers get the most up to date information not otherwise accessible while on the go.

Below is a list of features "My Location" offers:

  • Real-time traffic
  • Detailed directions
  • Integrated search results
  • Interactive maps
  • Satellite imagery

Over the next couple of days we are going to test the program side by side against my VZNavigator. Look for the results over the weekend.
