Sidekick on a Budget: T-Mobile Announces $99 Sidekick ID

T-Mobile today announced their long-rumored Sidekick ID, a lower-cost version of their popular messaging-centric handset.  The Sidekick ID looks, feels, and acts like its big brother, the Sidekick 3, but lacks the camera, Bluetooth, memory card slot, and USB port of the original.  On the upside, the Sidekick ID is cheaper by $100, a hair smaller, packs longer talk and standby times, and is compatible with optional colored faceplates (to be sold separately).

The Sidekick line has been distinguished by its signature swivel screen and QWERTY thumboard, and robust Web, Email, and IM capabilities.  Sidekick ID also retains SK 3's trackball for improved navigation, and includes compatibility with T-Mobile's myFaves calling plan.

Sidekick ID will cost $99 with a two-year T-Mobile contract, and will be available starting April 25.
