New PDA's, New Phones, and YouTube!!

From new devices to YouTube on your phone, here is my latest update on what is happen in the cell phone industry right now!

New I-MATE PDA's
I-Mate has just released two new PDA's: The PDAL and JAQ3. The JAQ3 resembles the Cingular BlackJack and also has a scroll wheel. Although I-Mate is releasing this phone now, it was already available under another name. Ever since HTC stopped branding phones for I-Mate they have been releasing phones made by other companies.

The JAQ3 was made by a company called UBiQUiO and is also known as the UBiQUiO 501. The JAQ3 has Windows Mobile 5 Pocket PC edition with AKU 3.2. The phone offers Quad-Band GSM, Wi-Fi, Edge, 2 Mega Pixel camera, Micro SD expandable memory and Stereo over Bluetooth. The processor is a TI OMAP 200 MHz. The JAQ3 resembles the Samsung BlackJack, i320 and the Motorola Q but the main difference is that the JAQ3 is a Pocket PC while the others are only Smartphones.

The PDAL is a quad-band GSM Pocket PC.  The PDAL has both WiFi b/g and Bluetooth version 1.2. The phone has an OMAP 200 MHz processor with 64 Mb RAM and 128 Mb ROM. The PDAL has expandable memory via Micro SD. The PDAL has stereo over Bluetooth technology but it is a shame that the Bluetooth is only version 1.2 and not 2.0.

Samsung SPH P9000
The SPH P9000 is half cell phone and half UMPC (Ultra Mobile Personal Computer). The Samsung SPH P9000 has the latest and greatest technologies. The P9000 will have Windows XP, CDMA cellular technology and Ev-Do data connection.  The P9000 is one of the first devices to introduce WiMAX technology.

WiMAX is a newer technology than WiFi which offers faster bandwidth, range and stronger data encryption. The P9000 will also offer a 30Gb hard drive and 5 inch display. The best part of the P9000 is not its features but its design. The P9000 folds three ways and can easily fit in your pocket with its small size. The SPH P9000 will be available in Korea in the first half of 2007 but no word on pricing yet.

HTC Cavalier
The HTC Cavalier is an upgrade to the HTC Excalibur/ T-Mobile Dash. The HTC Cavalier looks more like the Motorola Q because it is boxier. The Cavalier will be Quad-Band GSM and will have WiFi, EDGE and GPRS. Most features are the same as the Excalibur/Dash but some improvements include:

  • 400 MHz processor
  • UMTS
  • HSDPA
  • 2 Mega-Pixel camera

One change that is visible from pictures is that the Micro SD slot is located on the outside of the phone rather than under the battery cover. There are probably a lot more minor changes that are not yet known.

Motorola E6
The new E6 is the newest Linux based PDA by Motorola. The phone has the same style keypad as the Razr but is a lot more advanced. The E6 is only 14.5mm thick. The display is QVGA touch screen and displays 260k colors.  The E6 has a 2 mega-pixel camera, PDF and Microsoft office viewer and business card reader.

The phone also offers iTunes and has expandable memory via SD card. The best part about the music player is that there is no cap on the amount of music you can add like there was on the Motorola E1. A new feature that has been added to the E6 is a barcode scanner which may be an excellent feature for business professionals. The Motorola E6 is currently only available in China and hopefully will be coming to North America soon.

Verizon and YouTube!!
Soon Verizon customers will be able to watch the latest videos from the world famous YouTube website on their cell phones. Google and Verizon have made a deal to offer YouTube for Verizon as part of their new V-CAST multimedia center. If you?re not with Verizon you can still enjoy YouTube videos with the new Tiny Tube website but additional data rates may apply. Check out http://tinytube.net/ from your cellphone!!
